Temporo-Mandibular Joint Dysfunction

Temporo-Mandibular Joint Dysfunction (TMD) is a condition associated with a trapped lower jaw, which has forced the lower jaw joints (the Temporo-Mandibular Joints – TMJ) back and up into the hollows in which they function resulting in clicking of one or both of the joints on opening and/or closing and is often typified by headaches, back pain, pain in the joint(s), limited opening of the mouth and deviation of the lower jaw on opening or closing. TMD is usually treated with removable splint (or orthotic) and often needs to be done in conjunction with Orthopaedics and even braces.
